Art and Design
The arts subjects are powerful, unique forms of communication that can change the way children feel, think and act. As an integral part of culture, past and present, they can help children to understand themselves and relate to others. The teaching of art and design develops children's ability to appreciate a wide variety of art forms and to make judgements. It encourages active involvement in different forms and helps children to acquire a sense of group identity and togetherness. Art and design can increase self-discipline and creativity, aesthetic sensitivity and fulfilment.
Each of year groups cover the objectives outlined in The Rainbow Continuum, using a variety of art mediums and themes. Each year group covers two famous artists throughout the school year and an additional one during our Summer Term Art Days. Our Art Day this school year has a focus of the school landscape and using an artist as inspiration to sketch a feature of our school grounds. The staff and children are very excited about this topic, more information and photographs will follow.
This has recently been updated to reflect the most up to date curriculum.
Art and Design in Action!
All of our children enjoy the opportunities to try using new and different art mediums. We encourage children to experiment with different mediums and to make decisions relating to resources to use and designs to create.
We are Artists!
A small selection of photographs showing just some of the exciting art work on display during our most recent exhibition of work evening. This shows a small snippet of art work covered from our Foundation Stage all the way through school to our Year 6 classes. Some of our art work is linked to our topics as well as giving the opportunity to experiment with sketching, collage, printing, sculpture, batik and papier-mâché.
