Assessment at Brough Primary School
Assessing without levels
Due to the removal of the levels assessment system by the Department of Education, the school has worked hard on a new system which is in line with the higher expectations of the new National Curriculum requirements. This Assessment system has been developed with other schools in the partnership - (Elloughton, South Cave, North Cave and North Ferriby) to create an assessment system which not only shows progression but is an understandable, workable document for teachers, children and parents.
This shows how far the children are within their learning of a specific age related National Curriculum objective for Maths, Reading and Writing.
Teachers will gather the information needed through their day to day teaching and through individual tests.
At the end of each term teachers will make a best fit judgement against the Pathway Assessment.
These are colour coded statements taken from the National Curriculum and written in a child friendly ‘I can statement’. The children will use these to record their progress through reading, writing and maths. There are also blank pages for children to add their own personal targets that may not be already identified.
